Treaty of Oei

Japanese:
Treaty of Oei
This is said to be a treaty on commerce and trade concluded in 1404 (Oei 11) between Emperor Chengzu Yongle of the Ming Dynasty and Japanese Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. It is also called the Yongle Summary because this year was the second year of the Ming Dynasty's Yongle era. The contents of the treaty included: (1) ships to the Ming Dynasty would be required to pay tribute once every ten years, (2) the number of envoys and crew on board would be limited to 300 people per time, and (3) the number of ships would be limited to two. It is recorded in the Chinese works Chukaizuhen, Wangaxuehen, and Mingshi, but when compared to historical facts, it must be called a completely fictitious treaty.
