Rockfish - Rockfish

A deciduous shrub of the Rosaceae family (APG classification: Rosaceae). It grows 1-1.5 meters tall and has many branched twigs. The leaves are glabrous, diamond-ovate, broad-ovate, ovate, obovate, or oblong, and the undersides are slightly white. In May, it produces white, five-petaled flowers measuring 5-8 mm in diameter in umbel-shaped corymbs. It grows mainly in sunny, rocky areas in the mountains of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu west of the Kinki region, and is also found in Korea and China. S. nervosa Fr. et Sav. is similar to this species, but has soft hairs on the leaves and is distinguished from S. serrata.

バラ科（APG分類：バラ科）の落葉低木。高さ1～1.5メートル、小枝を多く分枝する。葉は無毛、菱(ひし)状卵形、広卵形、卵形、倒卵形、長楕円(ちょうだえん)形と変化に富み、裏面はやや白色を帯びる。5月ごろ径5～8ミリメートルの白色5弁の花を散形状散房花序につける。近畿地方以西の本州、四国、九州のおもに山地の日当りのよい岩石地に生え、朝鮮、中国にも分布する。イブキシモツケS. nervosa Fr. et Sav.は本種に似るが、葉に軟毛があり、イワガサと区別される。
