A national park on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in the United States. It has an area of 2,092 km2 and was designated in 1930. It is a mountain park about 110 km long and 30 km wide along the Great Smoky Mountains of the Appalachian Mountains. There are 25 mountains in the range that are over 1,800 m above sea level. The mountain range has a humid temperate climate, is covered with forests, and is known for more than 100 species of trees and more than 1,300 species of flowering plants. The peaks are always shrouded in clouds or mist, and when seen from a distance, it looks like smoke is rising from the mountains, hence the name "Great Smoky."
