A translation of "multiple art." It is also called "multiples." In a broad sense, it includes prints and cast sculptures, but it usually refers to the plastic arts (often objects) that have multiple originals and emerged after World War II. After the Industrial Revolution, in the mid-19th century, in a climate where mass production by machines was promoted, the principle of "fine arts" was to create one-off pieces by hand. However, if works were to be used solely for aesthetic appreciation, this would lead to a rise in costs, and would negate the social and practical functions of art.
