1880‐1939 A Burmese monk. A martyr who continued to appeal for colonial liberation despite being oppressed by British authorities. Born in Sittwe in the Arakan region. He became a monk at the age of 16 and traveled to India to study. After returning to Japan, he received full ordination and became a monk. He then visited India, Egypt, France, Japan, and other countries, before returning to Japan in 1918. Inspired by the activities of the Indian National Congress during his stay in India, he supported the political activities of the General Council of Burma Organizations after returning to Japan. He was arrested in 1921 for slandering the government, and was arrested again in 1924. After his release in 1927, he attended the Madras Conference of the Indian National Congress.
