Alexander II - Alexander
Russian Emperor (reigned 1855-1881). Son of Nicholas I. He ascended to the throne during the Crimean War, and after the war promoted reforms (known as the "Great Reforms"), such as issuing the Emancipation Edict and establishing the Zemstvo. He suppressed the Polish Revolt, invaded Central Asia, and started the Russo-Turkish War. He oppressed revolutionary forces and was assassinated by the Narodniks.
