A Turkic tribe in the Fars region in southwestern Iran. They are said to be descendants of Turkmen nomads who invaded Azerbaijan in the first half of the 11th century and migrated to the Fars region via the central Iranian plateau. Their language is closely related to Azerbaijani. The tribe's name comes from General Jāni Āqā Qashqā'i, who was entrusted with the rule of the tribes of the Fars region by Shah Abbas (reigned 1587-1629) during the Safavid period.
