Mitsusada Ashikaga

Japanese:
Mitsusada Ashikaga

A military commander in the mid-Muromachi period. Inamura Gosho. Son of the second Kamakura kubo Ujimitsu. Brother of the third kubo Mitsukane. In 1399 (Oei 6), he moved to Inamura, Iwase County, Mutsu Province (Ina, Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture), and played a part in the Kamakura shogunate's control of southern Oshu. There are 25 documents remaining that he issued over a 30-year period up to 1430 (Eikyo 2), and these show that he exercised authority as the Oshu Kanrei. The Inamura and Sasakawa Imperial Palaces ruled over southern Oshu thanks to the unity of local lords in the Sendo region, but the two palaces split apart during the period from the Uesugi Zenshu Rebellion (1416) to the Eikyou Rebellion (1438), and Mitsusada supported Mochiuji. He arrived in Kamakura in 1438, and committed suicide together with Mochiuji the following year in 1439 (Eikyou 11).
