A type of Polish folk dance. It is named after the Kujawy region. It is one of the three types (mazur, oberek, and kujabiak) that became the basis of Chopin's mazurka. It is in medium-speed 3/4 time, with the accent on the second or third beat of each measure. Several pairs of men and women dance in a circle. Piano pieces bearing this name appeared around 1830, but this type of dance was incorporated into art music much earlier, as in Telemann's Polish Dance.
