Vinyl - Vinyl (English spelling)

Abbreviation for vinyl compound. Also called vinyl. Generally refers to vinyl resin obtained by polymerization of vinyl chloride. The "vinyl" in vinyl sheets, vinyl pipes, etc. all refer to polyvinyl chloride resin.

In chemical terms, the atomic group CH ₂ ═CH-, which is the structure obtained by removing _one hydrogen atom from ethylene CH ₂ ═CH 2, is called a vinyl group. The vinyl group is a monovalent hydrocarbon group, and compounds that contain this group in their molecules are called vinyl compounds.

ビニル化合物の略称。ビニールともいう。一般には塩化ビニルなどの重合により得られるビニル樹脂をさすことが多い。ビニルシート、ビニル管などの「ビニル」は、いずれもポリ塩化ビニル樹脂を意味する。

　化学用語としては、エチレンCH₂=CH₂の水素原子1個を除いた構造の原子団CH₂=CH-をビニル基という。ビニル基は1価の炭化水素基で、これを分子内にもつ化合物をビニル化合物という。
