While studying theology in Paris, she discovered and fell in love with Cartesian philosophy, abandoned Catholicism, and moved to Geneva to become a language teacher. She published anonymously "De Bodie et Mind Concerning the Equality of the Sexes" (1673), "De Masculinum Superiorità" (1675), and "De Éducation d'Etudit" (1679), applying Descartes' methodological skepticism to sociology, especially feminism, and becoming the first man to thoroughly develop an argument for breaking down the prejudice that men are intellectually and physically superior. In his second work, he used indirect proof to argue that women's physical and civil servitude is merely the result of chance, violence, and habit, and even went so far as to consider the necessity of a social contract between power and the people. ...
