〘Noun〙① The tree that has only female flowers in a dioecious plant. Megi. ⇔ Sun-loving tree. [Nippo Jisho (1603-04)]② A tree that can tolerate the shade and grow in low light. Such as the Japanese laurel, the Japanese laurel, and the Yezo spruce. ⇔ Sun-loving tree. ③ (also written as "shade tree") A tree that spreads its leaves and branches to create shade. ※Mitsukuni Denki (around 1407-46?) 4 "I placed it under a shade tree and carried on my farming."
