Ctenomys (English spelling)
A general term for a rodent mammal of the Ctenomyidae family (family Ctenomysidae) that resembles a mole in appearance, with one genus and about 32 species. Also called tu-co-tu-co. Inhabits grasslands and forests from lowlands to high mountains at an altitude of 5000m from Peru and Brazil to Tierra del Fuego. Body length 15-25cm, tail length 6-11cm, weight 100-700g. Known species include Ctenomys talarum (body length 15-17cm, tail length 6-7cm) from eastern Argentina, and C. magellanicus (body length 19-22cm, tail length 7-8.2cm) from southern Argentina and Tierra del Fuego.
