Heinz Guderian

1888‐1954
General of the German Army. Developed German armored forces and was an armored commander during World War II. Born in Kulm, Prussia (now Chelmno, Poland). He was an infantry and signal officer, but studied the operational theory of armored forces between the two world wars and developed armored forces with the support of Hitler. In World War II, he led armored corps in Poland and France and played a key role in directing the blitzkrieg. During the invasion of the Soviet Union, he advanced as far as south of Moscow, but was dismissed in December 1941 after retreating his destroyed troops due to a Soviet counterattack and the harsh winter.

ドイツ陸軍上級大将。ドイツ装甲部隊の育成者で，第2次世界大戦中の装甲指揮官。プロイセンのクルム(現，ポーランドのヘウムノ)に生まれる。歩兵･通信将校であったが，両次大戦の間に装甲部隊の運用理論を研究，ヒトラーの支援を得て装甲部隊を育成した。第2次大戦ではポーランド，フランスで装甲軍団を率い電撃戦演出の主役となった。ソ連進攻ではモスクワ南方にまで迫ったが，1941年12月ソ連軍の反撃と厳冬のために壊滅にした部隊を後退させ罷免された。
