...In the 1930s, bases were established in Eastern Europe, in Yugoslavia and the Czech Republic. In particular, the Prague group (Toyen (1902- ) and others) had close ties with Paris and founded the journal "International Bulletin of Surrealism" (1935). Groups were formed by Dominguez and others in the Canary Islands, Penrose and others in England, and Wilhelm Freddie (1909- ) and others in Denmark, and they held "International Surrealist Exhibitions" (1935, 36) in their respective capital cities. Hans Bellmer (1902-75) came from Germany, and Victor Brauner (1903-66) and Jacques Hérold (1910- ) came from Romania. ...
