Yabakei [town] - Yabakei
A former town in Shimoge County in northern Oita Prefecture. It occupies the middle reaches of the Yamakuni River and is mostly mountainous. Although there is little arable land, rice is cultivated, and milk, tea, and fruit are also produced. It is in the center of Yabakei and is included in the Yaba-Hita-Hiko-san Quasi-National Park. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Nakatsu City along with Hon-Yabakei Town, Yamakuni Town, and Sanko Village in Shimoge County. 183.70 km2 . Population: 5,572 (2003).
