Queen Charlotte Islands

Japanese: クイーン･シャーロット[諸島]（英語表記）Queen Charlotte Islands

An archipelago on the Pacific coast of Canada, part of the province of British Columbia. The main islands are Graham Island, Moresby Island, and Louise Island, and are inhabited by over 2,000 people, mostly Haida Indians. Topographically, it is connected to Vancouver Island and the Coast Ranges. It is covered with forests and is known to have coal deposits. Its natural resources, including fisheries, have not been developed to any great extent. In 1787, G. Dixon and others explored the islands, and they were named after the ship they sailed on.

カナダ太平洋岸，ブリティッシュ･コロンビア州に属する諸島。おもな島としてグレアム島，モレズビー島，ルイーズ島があり，ハイダ･インディアンを中心に2000人余りの人が住む。地形的にはバンクーバー島やコースト･レーンジズ山脈につながる。森林で覆われ，石炭の埋蔵も知られている。水産資源をも含めて，これらの天然資源の開発はあまり進んでいない。1787年，G.ディクソンらが諸島を探検，彼らの船名にちなんで名づけられた。
