An old town in Date County, in the northeastern part of Fukushima Prefecture and the northeastern part of the Fukushima Basin. The Abukuma Express runs through the town. The main settlement is an old market town that developed on the terraces of the Abukuma River, and is home to many hosiery factories. It produces a lot of apples and peaches. In January 2006, it merged with Date Town, Yanagawa Town, Ryozen Town, and Tsukidate Town in Date County to become a city. 41.99 km2 . Population: 24,815 (2003). 福島県北東部,福島盆地北東部の伊達(だて)郡の旧町。阿武隈(あぶくま)急行が通じる。主集落は阿武隈川の段丘上に発達した古くからの市場町で,多くのメリヤス工場がある。リンゴ,モモの産が多い。2006年1月,伊達郡伊達町,梁川町,霊山町,月舘町と合併し市制,伊達市となる。41.99km2。2万4815人(2003)。
