Quincke's edema

Angioneurotic edema. It was first described by German physician HI Quincke, hence the name. It is a condition in which the permeability of the skin's capillaries increases, causing sudden swelling. Following symptoms such as headache, fatigue, and loss of appetite, the skin appears as pale, ill-defined, widespread edema the size of a palm or larger. Subjective symptoms include mild itching and hot flashes, which disappear within a few minutes to a few hours, or even 2-3 days, before reappearing after a period of time. It is most commonly seen on the face, particularly the eyelids, cheeks, and lips. It is most common from childhood to middle age. The cause is unknown, but it can be alleviated with antihistamines and corticosteroids.

血管神経性浮腫。ドイツの医師 H.I.クインケにより初めて記載されたのでこの名がある。皮膚の毛細血管の透過性が高まり，急に浮腫を起すもの。頭痛，倦怠感，食欲不振などの症状に続いて，皮膚に青白い境界のはっきりしない，手のひら大あるいはそれ以上の広範囲にわたる浮腫が現れる。自覚症状は軽いかゆみとほてりで，数分ないし数時間，長いときでも2～3日で消え，時間をおいてまた現れる。特にまぶた，頬，口唇など顔面に多くみられる。小児期から壮年期に好発する。原因は不明であるが，抗ヒスタミン剤，副腎皮質ホルモン剤で軽快する。
