A state in northeastern Australia. The Great Dividing Range runs along the eastern coast, and the Great Barrier Reef lies off the coast. The main livestock farming is cattle, sheep, horses, and pigs, and sugarcane, wheat, cotton, and vegetables are also cultivated. The state is rich in mineral resources such as copper, coal, uranium ore, and bauxite, and oil was discovered in the Moonee region in the south in 1961 and is currently being developed. The capital is Brisbane. Area: 1,730,648 ^km2. Population: 4,332,739 (2011).
