A form of bureaucratic appointment during the Ming and Qing dynasties in China. An imperial commissioner is someone who holds an official position and is sent out on a temporary mission to deal with specific incidents such as civil war, war, or diplomatic negotiations. Among imperial commissioners, those with the third rank or higher are called imperial commissioners. Many people in charge of diplomatic negotiations in the late Qing dynasty were sent out as imperial commissioners. The Ming dynasty's imperial commissioners, such as the governor, governor, education minister, and superintendent of the Yuehai customs, became permanent positions during the Qing dynasty.
