The name of a place in Hidaka City, Saitama Prefecture. During the Sengoku period, the area was called Takahagi-go. In 1583, the Hojo clan issued a letter of seal entitled "Regular Market Laws" to Takahagi Shinjuku. A new town was established as a result of the development of Takahagi-go, and this was designated Shinjuku. The opening of six monthly markets on February 2nd and 7th was permitted, and three laws were established regarding the market, granting it the privilege of being a free market. In the Edo period, the six monthly markets declined, and the market was held only twice a year on July 12th and December 27th, and was abolished in the mid-Edo period.
