Jinsako River

One of the names for the upper reaches of the Yangtze River (Changjiang) in southwestern China. The upper reaches of the Yangtze River, which was called the Tongtianhe River and originated in the western part of Qinghai Province, flowed eastward. It changed its name to the Jinsha River at the point where it flows south along the border between Sichuan Province and the Tibet Autonomous Region, passing through northern Yunnan Province and reaching Yibin in Sichuan Province. It is said that the name Jinsha River arose from the abundance of gold dust in this section. The total length of this section is 1,918 km. As it flows between the steep mountain ranges collectively known as the Hengduan Mountains, the valleys are deep and there are many rapids, so it is not used for navigation, but there are hopes for its development as a hydraulic resource.

中国西南部、長江(ちょうこう／チャンチヤン)（揚子江(ようすこう／ヤンツーチヤン)）上流部の名称の一つ。青海(せいかい／チンハイ)省西部に発する河川を集めて東流し通天河(つうてんが／トンティエンホー)と称した長江上流部は、四川(しせん／スーチョワン)省とチベット自治区の境界を南に向かって流れる地点より金沙江と名を変え、雲南(うんなん／ユンナン)省北部を経て四川省宜賓(ぎひん／イーピン)に至る。この区間には砂金が多いために金沙江の名がおこったといわれる。当区間の全長は1918キロメートル。横断山脈と総称される高峻(こうしゅん)な山脈の間を流れるため、谷は深く急流が多く航行には利用されないが、水力資源としての開発が期待されている。
