During the Pacific War, it took off from Chengdu, China on June 16, 1944, and was used to bomb the Yahata area of Kitakyushu. It was then used as a base on Saipan and Tinian islands to bomb various Japanese cities until the end of the war, and to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
