Japanese: ギンザケ(銀鮭) - ギンザケ（英語表記）coho salmon

This fish is a member of the Salmonidae family. It is widely distributed in the waters of the North Pacific Ocean, but very few of them migrate upstream in Japan, and are often caught offshore by North Pacific fleets. Its body is relatively elongated and laterally compressed, with a cone-shaped head. Its scales are relatively large, and its body is silvery-white in color with a slightly bluish-blue back and scattered black spots. It matures after 2 to 3 years, and 4-year-old fish can reach a body length of 85 cm. In the reproductive season, males have a protruding, downward-curving nose, and a red band appears on the gill lids behind the eyes. The sides of the body are also crimson-colored, with green markings running across them.

サケ目サケ科の魚。北太平洋水域に広く分布するが，日本で遡上（そじよう）する数はきわめて少なく，北洋船団などによる沖取りが多い。体は比較的細長く側扁し，頭部は円錘状。うろこは比較的大きく，体色は銀白色で背はやや蒼青色で黒点が散在する。生後満2～3年を経て成熟し，4年魚では体長85cmに及ぶものがある。生殖期の雄は鼻先が突き出て下方に湾曲し，眼の後方のえらぶたに紅色の帯が現れる。また，体側は朱紅色を帯びて，それを横断する緑色の斑紋が現れる。
