A type of Chinese poem. In the form of a seven-character quatrain, it elegantly describes court events and the lives of court ladies. It is also interesting as a source of information on customs. In the 8th to 9th century, Wang Jian of the mid-Tang dynasty created 100 palace poems, which became popular and became a tradition. During the Five Dynasties, Lady Hua Rui, the queen of Shu, and then Wang Gui of the Northern Song dynasty also created 100 palace poems. At the end of the Ming dynasty, they were published together with Wang Jian's as the Sanjia Gongci (Three Palace Poems) (Mao Jin, Kukaku). During the Qing dynasty, this was further expanded and published as the Ten Palace Poems (Ni Can Ji). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
