The Battle of Sparta and Thebes in 371 BC. In that year, the Treaty of Antalcidas was signed again in Sparta, but Thebes was not allowed to represent Boeotia and did not join the treaty. So the Spartan king Kleombrotos invaded Boeotia and set up camp at Leuktra near Thebes. The Spartan allies had the advantage in terms of military strength, but Epaminondas used a new tactic called the diagonal formation to defeat the Spartan army.

前371年のスパルタとテーバイの戦い。この年スパルタで再度〈大王の和約(アンタルキダス条約)〉が結ばれたが，テーバイはボイオティアを代表することを認められず，和約に加わらなかった。そこでスパルタ王クレオンブロトスKleombrotosはボイオティアに侵入してテーバイ近郊のレウクトラLeuktraに陣を敷いた。兵力はスパルタ同盟軍が優勢であったが，エパメイノンダスは新たに斜形陣と呼ばれる戦法を用いてスパルタ軍を破った。
