Sudden death. A person who appears healthy dies suddenly. This occurs when a disease has progressed without the person himself or herself realizing, let alone those around him or her. Approximately half of all sudden deaths are believed to be caused by cardiovascular disease, but there are also cases where the cause or reason is unclear. Because the progression is so sudden, death may be suspected to be due to violence or poisoning, and may become the subject of forensic medicine. It may not be clear from an autopsy until death is due to illness. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
