Analog-digital converter

Japanese: アナログ‐ディジタル変換 - アナログディジタルへんかん（英語表記）analogue‐digital converter

It is the process of receiving an analog voltage signal that is a function of a continuous change amount and sending out a corresponding discretely coded digital information signal. It is often abbreviated as A-D conversion. The inverse function of this, that is, receiving digital code information and generating a voltage signal proportional to the value represented by this code, is called digital-to-analog conversion (D-A conversion). A familiar example of a digital output of an analog input is a household wattmeter. This displays the amount of power consumed in kWh units suitable for office work, and uses decimal digits to display the amount.

連続変化量の関数であるアナログ電圧信号を受け，これに対応する離散的に符号化されたディジタル情報信号を送出すること。A‐D変換と略称されることが多い。この逆機能，すなわちディジタル符号情報を受けてこの符号の表す数値に比例する電圧信号を発生するものを，ディジタル‐アナログ変換(D‐A変換)と呼ぶ。　アナログ量の入力をディジタル化して出力する身近な例として家庭用の積算電力計がある。これは消費電力量を事務処理に適するkWh単位でくぎり，ディジタルに十進数字で表示する。
