An electrical signal whose amplitude changes continuously over time, such as an audio signal or a television signal, is called an analog signal. In contrast, a digital signal is a signal that is sampled at regular time intervals, the sampled values quantized, and represented as a discrete numerical sequence. Data, for example, can itself be considered a digital signal. Analog signals are converted into digital signals by analog-digital converters, and conversely, converted back into analog signals by digital-analog converters.
