A former town in Higashitagawa County in the northwest of Yamagata Prefecture. It occupies the southeastern and southern mountainous areas of the Shonai Plain, and produces rice and fruit. Touge is a temple town of Mt. Haguro, and has many lodgings. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Tsuruoka City along with Atsumi Town in Nishitagawa County, Kushibiki Town in Higashitagawa County, Fujishima Town, and Asahi Village. 109.61 km2 . 9,776 people (2003). 山形県北西部，東田川(ひがしたがわ)郡の旧町。庄内平野南東部と南部の山地を占め，米，果樹を産する。手向(とうげ)は羽黒山の門前町で，多くの宿坊がある。2005年10月西田川郡温海町，東田川郡櫛引町，藤島町，朝日村と鶴岡市へ編入。109.61km2。9776人（2003）。
