A former town in the Arida district, located in the lower Arida River basin in the western part of Wakayama Prefecture. It is the home of the Arida mandarin orange, and is also a thriving town in rice and poultry farming. The Kisei Main Line and Kainan-Yuasa Toll Road pass through the town. In January 2006, it merged with Kanayama Town and Shimizu Town in the Arida district to become Aridagawa Town in the Arida district. Area: 36.37 km2 . Population: 14,940 (2003). 和歌山県西部,有田川下流域にある有田(ありだ)郡の旧町。有田ミカンの本場で,米作,養鶏なども盛ん。紀勢本線,海南湯浅有料道路が通じる。2006年1月,有田郡金屋町,清水町と合併し町制,有田郡有田川町となる。36.37km2。1万4940人(2003)。
