Uadjet (English spelling)

Japanese: ウアジェト（英語表記）Uadjet

She was an ancient Egyptian snake goddess, called Uto by the Greeks. Buto, the center of her worship, means "House of Wadjet." There were two Butos, one was a sacred city with a temple to Wadjet, and the other was the royal capital of Horus, where Isis purified Horus and prepared him for the battle against Set as the successor of Osiris. By combining with Osiris, Wadjet became the sacred snake Uraeus as the royal deity of Northern Egypt, shining on the crown and becoming the immortal guardian deity of the pharaohs. The red crown, inherited from Neith, also became an eternal symbol of royal authority in the Delta region of Lower Egypt.

古代エジプトの蛇の女神でギリシア人はウトUtoと呼んだ。その信仰の拠点ブトButoは〈ウアジェトの館〉の意。ブトは二つあり，一つはウアジェト神殿のあった聖なる町，他はホルスの王都で，イシスがホルスを清めオシリスの後継者としてセトとの戦いに身支度をさせた所。ウアジェトはオシリスと結びつくことにより，北エジプトの王室神として聖蛇ウラエウスUraeusとなり，王冠上に輝きファラオの不滅の守護神となった。またネイトよりひきついだ赤王冠は下エジプト･デルタ地帯の王権の永遠の象徴となった。
