Wakamiya [town] - Wakamiya

Japanese: 若宮[町] - わかみや

A former town in Kurate-gun, northern Fukuoka Prefecture. It occupies the Inunaki River basin, a tributary of the Onga River. The Kyushu Expressway passes through the town. In addition to rice, strawberries, grapes, and flowers are cultivated, and forestry is also abundant. The main settlement, Fukumaru, is located in a basin along the river, making it a strategic location for bus transportation. Takehara Kofun (historic site) is located here. In February 2006, it merged with Miyata Town, Kurate-gun, to become a city, Miyawaka City. Area: ^{87.50 km2} . Population: 10,379 (2003).

福岡県北部，鞍手郡の旧町。遠賀(おんが)川の支流犬鳴(いぬなき)川の流域を占める。九州自動車道が通じる。米作のほか，イチゴ，ブドウ，花卉(かき)などの栽培が行われ，林産も多い。主集落の福丸は川沿いの盆地にあり，バス交通の要地。竹原古墳（史跡）がある。2006年２月，鞍手郡宮田町と合併し市制，宮若市となる。87.50km²。１万379人（2003）。
