Japanese: ハッカン(白鷴) - ハッカン（英語表記）silver pheasant

A bird of the genus Scarlet Pheasant in the family Phasianidae in the order Phasianidae. It is found in southern China, the Indochina Peninsula, and Myanmar. Males are about 120 cm long, with 60-75 cm of that being the tail feathers. They have a black crest on their head and a bare red face. The throat and underbelly are a shiny bluish black, with a white back and thin black horizontal lines, white tail feathers, and red legs. Females are about 70 cm long, with a small exposed red part on their face, red legs, and an overall feather color of a grayish brown. Silverbacks are well known as pet birds, and bird-keeping books from the Edo period include instructions on how to keep them along with peacocks and golden pheasants.

キジ目キジ科コシアカキジ属の鳥。中国南部，インドシナ半島，ミャンマーにかけて分布する。雄は体長約120cm，そのうち尾羽が60～75cmある。頭部には黒色の冠羽があり，顔は裸出して赤い。のどから下腹にかけては青みを帯びた光沢ある黒色で，背面は白く，黒く細い横線があり，尾羽は白く，脚は赤い。雌は，体長約70cm，顔の赤い裸出部分は小さく，脚は赤く，全体に灰色みを帯びた褐色のじみな羽色をしている。ハッカンは飼鳥として著名で，江戸時代の飼鳥の本には，クジャク，キンケイとともに飼い方が記されている。
