National Westminster Bank PLC (Public Limited Company)

The largest of the four major clearing banks in the UK (deposit banks affiliated with the London Clearing House), it was formed in 1968 by the merger of Westminster Bank, the fourth largest clearing bank at the time, National Provincial Bank, the fifth largest, and the independent District Bank. This merger was the largest in the history of British banking and sparked a wave of mergers that followed.

イギリスの四大クリアリング･バンク(ロンドン手形交換所加盟の預金銀行)の最大の銀行。1968年，当時クリアリング･バンク中第4位のウェストミンスター銀行Westminster Bankと第5位のナショナル･プロビンシャル銀行National Provincial Bankおよび独立系のディストリクト銀行District Bankの3行が合併して生まれた。この合併はイギリス銀行史上最大の規模で，これに続く合併ラッシュの口火となった。
