Airport surface detecting equipment (ASDE) is a short-range radar system that uses high frequencies to detect aircraft and vehicles on the surface of an airport and monitor their movement. It controls their movement and maintains safety to prevent accidents such as collisions when visibility is poor due to fog or rain. It is installed at the top of the control tower.
