Following the Keicho Oban, the Genroku Oban was minted in 1695 (Genroku 8), followed by the Kyoho Oban in 1725 (Kyoho 10), the Tenpo Oban in 1838 (Tenpo 9), and the Man'en Oban in 1860 (Man'en 1). The last Oban, the Man'en Oban, was minted for the purpose of adjusting the gold-silver ratio in Japan, where the value of gold had been extremely low compared to other countries since the opening of the ports in 1859 (Ansei 6). ...
