A town in Sannohe County in the southern part of Aomori Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Kumahara River, a tributary of the Mabechi River, on the eastern slope of the Ou Mountains, and is mountainous with little arable land. It produces garlic, apples, tobacco, and rice, and also raises livestock. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 241.98 km2 . 6,175 people (2010).
