Lambaréné - Lambaréné (English spelling)

A town in western Gabon, in the central-west of Africa. Population 19,400 (2002 estimate). It is located 150 km southeast of Libreville, on the banks of the Ogooué River. It is known as the place where German doctor and thinker A. Schweitzer carried out missionary and medical activities from 1913 until his death (1965). It is home to his grave and the Schweitzer Peace Memorial Hospital, as well as a post office, bank, and other facilities.

アフリカ中西部、ガボン西部にある町。人口1万9400（2002推計）。リーブルビルの南東150キロメートル、オゴウエ川沿岸に位置する。ドイツの医師で思想家のA・シュワイツァーが1913年から死去（1965）するまで、伝道と医療活動を行った地として知られる。同博士の墓やシュワイツァー平和記念病院があるほか、郵便局、銀行など各種施設も整っている。
