…A late Paleolithic culture with the Aurignac site in the Pyrenees in France as its reference site. This culture emerged during a cold period (Phase I) and then entered a period of rapid climate warming (Phase II). This period corresponds to the Arcy warm period, and is estimated to be around 30,500 years ago by carbon-14 methods. In the early 20th century, the Aurignacian culture was placed between the Mousterian and Solutre cultures, and was later divided into three periods by H. Breuil.
