Vasa Pelagić

Serbian socialist and political activist. After graduating from theological school in Belgrade, he became a teacher, but from 1863 he studied in Moscow for three years, learning history, medicine, politics and economics. During this time he was exposed to Russian revolutionary ideas, and after returning to Serbia he joined the socialist movement led by Serbia's first socialist, Marković. He actively became involved among the peasants, and played a major role in the 1975 uprising of the Bosnian peasants against Turkey. He wrote many articles calling for national liberation and social change in Serbia, and is regarded as a pioneer of the Serbian socialist movement.

セルビアの社会主義者，政治活動家。ベオグラードの神学学校卒業後教職に就いたが，1863年から3年間モスクワに留学し，歴史学，医学，政治･経済学を学ぶ。この間にロシアの革命思想にふれ，帰国後，セルビア初の社会主義者マルコビッチらの社会主義運動に参加。農民の中に積極的に入り，75年のボスニア･ヘルツェゴビナの農民による対トルコ蜂起に大きな役割を果たした。セルビアの民族解放や社会変革を唱える多くの記事を書き，セルビア社会主義運動の先駆者と評されている。
