Francisco Cambó

Spanish politician and businessman. Born in Catalonia. He became involved in the Catalan regionalist movement while still at university, and became a central figure in the 1920s and 1930s. However, his political stance was delicate, as he defended Spanish unity and the monarchy against the separatist movement and anti-monarchy and anti-republican forces. He became a member of the Spanish parliament in 1917, and served as a cabinet minister twice (1918, 21), but fled to Argentina when the civil war began. [Suzuki Shoichi]

スペインの政治家，実業家。カタルニャ地方出身。大学在学中からカタルニャ地方主義運動に身を置き，1920‐30年代にかけ，その中心人物となる。しかし，分離主義運動ならびに反王制，反共和国勢力に対し，スペインの統一と王制を擁護し，政治的立場は微妙であった。1917年にスペイン国会議員となり，2度閣僚を経験(1918,21)するが，内戦が始まるとアルゼンチンへ亡命した。【鈴木昭一】
