A battle in 479 BC during the Second Persian War. According to ancient legend, it was fought on the same day as the Battle of Plataea. At the Andros Conference immediately following the Battle of Salamis, the Greek naval forces announced a proactive plan to wage war on Persian territory in the future. They set out in the spring of 479 BC, but remained on the island of Delos for a long time, hesitant to move eastward. Then, a representative of the Persian resistance faction on the island of Samos appeared and requested the Greek fleet to be deployed, so the Greeks set out in response.
