The eldest son of Sultan Amangkubuwono III of Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia, and a leader of the rebel army during the Java War (1825-30). One of the national heroes of the Republic of Indonesia. When his father died in 1814 during the British rule of Java (1811-16), Diponegoro's mother was of low status, so the throne was succeeded by his younger brother Jarot. From his childhood, Diponegoro lived in an Islamic boarding school, hating the corruption and intrigues of the court, and had contact with the general public.

インドネシア，ジャワ島ジョクジャカルタのスルタン，アマンクブウォノ3世の長男で，ジャワ戦争(1825‐30)における反乱軍の指導者。インドネシア共和国の民族英雄の一人。イギリスのジャワ統治期間(1811‐16)中の1814年に父王が死去したが，ディポネゴロの母の地位が低かったため，王位は弟ジャロットによって継承された。ディポネゴロは少年時代から宮廷の腐敗ぶりや陰謀を嫌ってイスラム寄宿学校に住み，一般民衆とも接触があった。
