Nagoya Railroad - Nagoya Railroad
A private railway company. Founded in 1894 as Aichi Horse-drawn Railway, it was renamed Nagoya Electric Railway in 1896. In 1921 it was reorganized as a joint-stock company and renamed Nagoya Railroad. Between 1923 and 1929 it merged with four railways, and in 1930 it merged with Mino Electric Tramway and was renamed Meitetsu Railway. In 1935 it merged with Kakamigahara Railway and Aichi Electric Railway and returned to its current name. Between 1939 and 1944 it merged with nine railways, and in 1947 it acquired Meitetsu Motor's bus business. In 1954 it transferred the Atsumi Line to Toyohashi Railway. In 1965 it began running on the JNR Takayama Line, and in 1980 the Chita New Line opened. In 1982 the Hashima Line opened. The company operates routes in Aichi and Gifu prefectures, with its main base in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, and in addition to railways it also operates buses, real estate and building businesses, and amusement parks such as Japan Monkey Park. Its subsidiaries include Meitetsu Department Store, Meitetsu Real Estate, Meitetsu Grand Hotel, and Meitetsu Transport. Its lines include the Nagoya Main Line (Toyohashi - Meitetsu Gifu), Mikawa Line (Sanage - Chiryu, Hekinan - Chiryu), Bisai Line (Yatomi - Meitetsu Ichinomiya), Nishio Line, Gamagori Line, Tokoname Line, Kowa Line, Inuyama Line, Hiromi Line, Komaki Line, Seto Line, Kakamigahara Line, Takehana Line, Toyota Line, Tsushima Line, Chita New Line, Toyokawa Line, and others.

私鉄会社。1894年愛知馬車鉄道として創業,1896年名古屋電気鉄道と改称。1921年株式会社に改組し,名古屋鉄道と改称。1923~29年に 4鉄道を合併,1930年美濃電気軌道を合併して名岐鉄道と改称。1935年各務原鉄道,愛知電気鉄道を合併して現社名に戻した。1939~44年に 9鉄道を合併,1947年名鉄自動車のバス事業を買収。1954年渥美線を豊橋鉄道へ譲渡。1965年国鉄高山線へ乗り入れ開始,1980年知多新線開業。1982年羽島線開業。愛知県名古屋市を中心に愛知県,岐阜県に路線をもち,鉄道以外にバス,土地建物業などのほか日本モンキーパークなどの遊園地を経営。傘下に名鉄百貨店,名鉄不動産,名鉄グランドホテル,名鉄運輸などをもつ。路線は名古屋本線(豊橋―名鉄岐阜),三河線(猿投―知立,碧南―知立),尾西線(弥富―名鉄一宮),西尾線,蒲郡線,常滑線,河和線,犬山線,広見線,小牧線,瀬戸線,各務原線,竹鼻線,豊田線,津島線,知多新線,豊川線ほか。
