...There are 13 species in 4 genera known from the waters off Japan: Peristedion orientale, Peristedion thrush, Peristedion orientale, and Peristedion scavenger. The Peristedion orientale (illustration) is found on the continental shelf at depths of about 200m south of central Honshu, and lives in the shallowest depths of the family. It can reach a total length of 21cm.
