Chikahiko Koizumi

Japanese: 小泉親彦 - こいずみちかひこ

1884-1945 A military man and politician from the Taisho to early Showa periods.
Born on September 9, 1884. Studied hygiene. Joined the army and became the Surgeon General and Director of the Army Ministry's Medical Bureau. In 1937, he became a lieutenant general. He helped establish the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and in 1941, he became Minister of Health and Welfare, where he promoted tuberculosis prevention policies. After the war, he committed suicide on September 13, 1945, before being investigated as a war criminal. He was 62 years old. Born in Fukui Prefecture. Graduated from Tokyo Imperial University.

明治17年9月9日生まれ。衛生学を専攻。陸軍にはいり,軍医総監,陸軍省医務局長となる。昭和12年軍医中将。厚生省設置につくし,16年厚相となって結核予防政策などをすすめた。戦後戦犯としての取り調べを前に昭和20年9月13日自殺。62歳。福井県出身。東京帝大卒。
