Through these experiences in Milan, the cultural center, Parini gradually broke away from the influence of the Arcadian school and leaned toward the Enlightenment that was spreading in Europe at the time. In 1857, he wrote the prose poem Dialogue on the Nobility as his first literary expression. In this work, two dead men, a nobleman and a poet, buried in the same cemetery, engage in a dialogue about the privileges of the nobility, and come to the conclusion that they both confirm the fundamental equality of human beings. The ideas behind this work are inherited in his masterpiece One Day. …
