Ujiie Bokuzen

Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. A military commander in the Sengoku and Azuchi-Momoyama periods. Son of Ujiie Yukitaka, lord of Makita Castle in Mino (Yoro County, Gifu Prefecture). His name was first changed to Tomonori, then Naomoto, and he called himself Hitachi no Suke, but after he became a monk he became known as Kanshinsai Bokuzen. He served three generations of Toki Yorinori, then Saito Dosan, Yoshitatsu, and Tatsuoki, and was known as the Three Men of Western Mino along with Inaba Ittetsu and Ando Moriyasu. In 1564 (Eiroku 7), he conspired with Inaba and Ando to befriend Oda Nobunaga. In 1571 (Genki 2), he attacked Kitabatake Tomonori at Ise Okawachi Castle, and in 1571 (Genki 2) he marched with Shibata Katsuie and others in the battle against the Ikko Ikki in Ise Nagashima, but served as the rear guard when the entire army retreated, and was killed in battle when he was attacked by the rebel army in Ota Village, Ishizu County, Mino Province.

戦国・安土桃山時代の武将。美濃牧田城(岐阜県養老郡)城主氏家行隆の子。名は,はじめ友国,次いで直元と改め,常陸介を称したが,出家してからの貫心斎卜全の名が有名。土岐頼芸,次いで斎藤道三・義竜・竜興の3代に仕え,稲葉一鉄・安藤守就と西美濃三人衆の名で呼ばれていた。永禄7(1564)年から稲葉,安藤と謀って織田信長に通じた。同12年,北畠具教を伊勢大河内城に攻め,元亀2(1571)年の伊勢長島一向一揆との戦いで,柴田勝家らと共に出陣したが,全軍退却のとき殿軍の役を務め,美濃国石津郡太田村で一揆軍に襲われ討死した。
